Superman and Me is by Sherman Alexie. Superman and me talks about a Indian boy who teaches himself to read by books. He taught himself to look and pictures and say the sentence aloud. He talks about his struggles as an Indian and how growing up in a reservation had its rules. Sherman also talks about how the educators had low expectations on the Indian children, how he was never taught to write poetry, short stories or novels. I agree with what Sherman has to say. I think it is hard to break out of the certain lifestyles you are born into, to be something different, greater. Unlike Sherman, I was taught to become literate through school. I spent tons of time in the school library with the librarian. From personal experience, it takes a lot of strength and perseverance to keep pursuing your goal even when others doubt you.
I refused to fail. I was smart. I was arrogant. I was lucky.

Why is writing important?
I am majoring in social work and minoring in psychology. I want to become a therapist for children. The type of writing that I will be doing are monthly reports about the kids and how they are doing. My writing will need to improve because I will have to type a paper to whomever it may concern about the children's needs and improvements. I will need to be very detailed with my writing and very descriptive with the behaviors and stories or comments that the children tell me.
Hourihan Blog Post
1. Some features of a blog are when you blog it will time and date your blog post. Usually your name is included at the end, like a signature. This differs from print sources because blog post are instant and with a print source is a process.
2. Hourihan feels that blogs are a communication revolutions because after 9/11 some blogs were referred to as war blogs. Also blogging is seen as an online diary and as technology advances so will blogging.
3. I think keeping a blog for this class will be advantageous to my learning by helping my writing skills and becoming more familiar or 'on key' with my personal writing.
4. Publishing has a certain amount of words you can use and you have to write about a certain topic where as in blogging its like a free space to write whats on your mind. Its like a blank canvas waiting for you to design it.
